there are ladybug dogs trained to locate clusters of hibernating ladybugs in
the ground. the beetles are removed in mass bagged and marketed to truck
farmers for aphid control. you maybe able to purchase small bags of lb
beetles for aphid control in hobby greenhouses. we have done so.

the lb beetles that winter in houses are reported to be from asia as the
native species hibernate in the ground.

you might be interested in collecting a few beetles an counting their
spots-- there will be varying numbers of spots.

to my knowledge the lb beetles do not bore into wood but they may crawl into
cracks that might appear to some as having chewed their way into wood. whl
