This evening ~9:20 when returning from an Audubon meeting in Federal Way, we
heard what we think is a Northern Saw-Whet Owl in the woods of Dash Point State
Park. It was giving a very long series of equal length, equally spaced, single
toned hoots. By listening to our tapes, and checking it out on the NAS CD-ROM,
we believe it was a Northern Saw-Whet. Might anyone care to confirm the
likelihood? We had never heard this bird previously in this area. We know the
GHO's in the area, and are also familiar with Screech Owl calls. It was not
like either of those. If anyone is interested in actually trying to hear it, we
are located on the south-east boundary of the park.
