Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This recording
was made Thursday April 10. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
233-3976.

An adult female TUFTED DUCK was observed April 5 among a group of GREATER
SCAUP on the Columbia River just below the John Day Dam. It remained for
birders to see and enjoy.

The Vancouver, Washington and the West Eugene BLUE JAYS continued to be
seen throughout the week. The Lewis and Clark State Park EMPEROR GOOSE has
not been seen since March 10!

An early BROWN PELICAN was seen flying northward off Brookings April 7. A
PALM WARBLER was in the deflation plane near the South Jetty of the Siuslaw
River April 5. The ROSS' GEESE continue to be seen in the meadows east of
Florence and at Fern Ridge Reservoir.

At least two LAPLAND LONGSPURS were along the road at the South Jetty of
Yaquina Bay all week. TUFTED PUFFINS are now regular on Haystack Rock at
Cannon Beach.

Hawks, shorebirds, CHIPPING SPARROWS, BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLERS and
HERMIT THRUSHES were the conspicuous migrants during the week. On April 4
an adult GOSHAWK was chasing pigeons at Rock Creek, west of Portland.

A male CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD visited a feeder in Cornelius April 6. A male
BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD was at a feeder in Mosier April 4. An early
NASHVILLE WARBLER was a few miles east of there at Mayer State Park April
8.

YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRDS are now back at the Briedwell Road Marsh west of
Amity and at Fern Ridge Reservior. Three BLACK-NECKED STILTS and a
LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE were at Fern Ridge April 5. A CATTLE EGRET has been along
the I5 Freeway north of Coburg since March 31. A SOLITARY VIREO was at
Creswell, south of Eugene April 5.

On April 5 a tight flock of 680 GREATER SCAUP and another flock of 90
COMMON LOONS were on Wickiup Reservoir, south of Bend. An adult HERRING
GULL was there that day also. Small numbers of COMMON LOONS have been
reported from other inland locations during the week indicating a movement.

A flock of 44 LONG-BILLED CURLEWS were foraging in a field off Highway 395
south of Lakeview April 6. That day a large flock of PINYON JAYS was seen
along Forest Service Road 2350 north of Cabin Lake in Lake County. The
Cabin Lake area is still quiet. Landbird migrations in Malheur NWR is still
slow, but waterfowl movements are still being reported.

Thats it for this week.
