This is very puzzling to me. The only thing I can think of that might
explain it is the fact that I scatter sunflower chips and millet in my
driveway for the ground feeding birds and that's where the House Sparrows
feed. I suspect they prefer millet to sunflowers; hence they've never
bothered with the sunflower feeders. Since you can't get rid of them maybe
it's best to give them an alternate source of food? That's what I ended up
doing with the squirrels. Now that they have their own feeding station they
leave the bird feeders alone.
