We have a nest box attached to the house that has been home to a pair of
Violet-Green Swallows for the past 4 years. Every year they appear in late
March, and after much ado between them regarding their new digs, they begin
the labor intensive task of building their nest. But this year they must
have other things on their minds as I have seen them only a handful of times
during the course of about 3 weeks. Even still, they are regularly checking
out the nestbox. Regarding nesting material - I have found that dryer lint
is pretty popular as well as moss, but the funniest thing I ever found in the
nest was curling ribbon! Must have come from someone's trash can. Good
Birding!
