This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for April 6,

As reported by Dennis Rockwell, the Audubon field trip on March 29, found a
GOLDEN EAGLE, 400 SANDHILL CRANE, BLACK-NECKED STILT, AMERICAN AVOCET,
DUNLIN, 5 SHORT-EARED OWLS, and VIOLET-GREEN AND CLIFF SWALLOWS at the
Scootney Reservoir plus another 200 SANDHILL CRANE at he Windmill (?) Ranch
Unit about 2 miles NW of Mesa.

On March 30, Bill and Nancy LaFramboise birding on the south side of
Rattlesnake Mountain found 2 SAGE THRASHERS and a SHORT-EARED OWL along
Rotha Road, 3 BREWER'S SPARROWS and a FERRUGINOUS HAWK along Case Road, and
a BARN OWL and PRAIRIE FALCON on the basalt cliffs along Old Inland Empire
Highway.

Also on March 30, Phil Bullard observed a FERRUGINOUS HAWK along the road
into Fishhook Park from Highway 124.

Dennis Rockwell sighted 3 ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS over the lagoon at Two
Rivers Park on March 31.

Randy Hill of Othello reported the presence of a RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER on
the Royal slope from March 28-30 and noted that BLACK-NECKED STILT and
AMERICAN AVOCET can be found at a wetland along Highway 26, about 3/4 mile
west of the Grant county line.

On April 1, I (Bob Woodley) found 2 GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE feeding with
Canada Geese at the south end of Groves Park in Richland.

On April 2, Scott Dietert observed a TOWNSEND'S SOLITAIRE in his North
Richland yard and Ruth Fischer saw a VIOLET-GREEN SWALLOW over the Chamna
Preserve in south Richland (along the Yakima River). To date, swallows have
been very uncommon locally.

Nancy LaFramboise and I birded the south side of Rattlesnake Mountain on
April 3 and found a rather late MERLIN, 2 SAGE THRASHERS, a LOGGERHEAD
SHRIKE, and a BREWER'S SPARROW all along Case Road. A single GRAY PARTRIDGE
was seen on Rotha Road.
