This is Kas Dumroese with the northern Idaho / eastern Washington /
northeastern Oregon bird hotline.

John and Marty Hirth saw a single ROSS' GOOSE with 7 TUNDRA
SWANS at Mann Lake near Lewiston, ID on Apr 6. The Ross' was still
there on Apr 7, according to John and Amy Roberson. To get to Mann
Lake, take US 12 West into Lewiston and cross the Clearwater River.
Immediately after crossing the bridge, take the first left toward East
Lewiston. Follow Main Street to the yellow blinking light and turn right
onto Lindsay Creek Road. Follow Lindsey Creek about 5 miles until it
ends at Grelle Avenue. Turn left onto Grelle. After making the 20
m.p.h. right hand turn, turn left onto Powers. You'll see a sign for
Mann Lake. Continue straight 1.3 miles to the dead end and the lake.

The SANDHILL CRANE numbers at Scootenay Reservoir southeast of
Othello, WA are dropping. Deb Buetler and James Holloway report
100 there this past week. Take WA 17 south from WA 26 just east of
Othello 13 miles to the reservoir entrance. There are two good
viewing spots. From the visitors center drive north as far as you can
then hike to the bluff and look down on the birds, or climb the hill near
the dam for another good vantage. Deb reports 2 SHORT-EARED OWLS on the
hike to the bluff and a few AMERICAN AVOCET, BLACK-NECKED STILT, DUNLIN,
and GREATER YELLOWLEGS. WA DeLorme 53, C8.

Karen Parker had 3 BLUE JAYS at her Hayden Lake, ID birdfeeder on
Mar 26, at least until 2 Steller's Jay reclaimed their territory. You
might check with Karen to see if the birds are still around. Her number
is 208-762-2151. The 3 BLUE JAYS in northern Moscow continue ot be
obnoxiously present.

Deb Buetler had a male CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRD at her Albion, WA
feeder on Apr 4. The bird hasn't been seen since.

Deb Buetler and James Holloway report 20 CASPIAN TERNS at the
Walla Walla River delta in western Walla Walla Co., WA earlier this
week, along with DUNLIN, AMERICAN AVOCET, and GREATER
YELLOWLEGS. Today, Apr 11, Mike and MerryLynn Denny counted
300 DUNLIN on the delta, a couple of BLACK-NECKED STILTS and a
single AMERICAN AVOCET. Also on the delta, according to Mike, is a
weird-looking Glaucous x Herring Gull hybrid. The Denny's also report
a second-year GLAUCOUS GULL on the Wallula poop piles, just north
of the delta. The Walla Walla River delta is just north of the junction
of US 730 and US 12 at the Columbia River and the poop piles are just a
little further north.. WA DeLorme 40, D1.

The Denny's also report a pair of BURROWING OWLS just south of the
Oregon/Washington border between Walla Walla, WA and Milton-
Freewater, OR. The birds were near Troyer and Wiedirt Roads. OR
DeLorme 86, A2. Right below the number 2 is "windmill" which is just
above Troyer and Wiedirt Roads.

Some interesting odds and ends. I saw a pair of TURKEY VULTURES
gliding over Moscow, ID on Apr 6, and Dan Svingen enjoyed watching
a NORTHERN GOSHAWK "play" with a couple of PILEATED
WOODPECKERS in McComas Meadows, which is about 10 miles east
of Grangeville, ID. And the SAVANNAH and SONG SPARROWS are on
territory in the fields north of Moscow.
