Byron,

I'm guessing an owl, either Saw-whet or Pygmy. Saw-whets have a fairly fast
repeat rate; those around here in Thurston County remind me of a dump truck
backing up: "beep - beep - beep". They will call continuously for long periods.
The pygmies are more variable, but usually slower than one per second and more
irregular.
