Hello Tweeters,

A week and a half ago we reported on a roufous hummingbird nesting in our
backyard. We must now report that she abandoned the nest. She was still
dilligently sitting on the nest this past Sunday morning but later in the
day left for an extended time of over an hour. She returned once for a
brief time and then was gone. This evening we used a mirror on the end
of a stick to look inside the nest and there were no eggs. We never
checked the nest prior to this evening so we only assumed that she laid
eggs to begin with. This past Sunday was the start of the supposed 15th
day of incubation so we were looking forward to some hatching activity.
