Its time I added my two cents worth on the "triangle theory".

I am just like Scott Downes where I am a professional biologist who studies
birds for a living, likes to volunteer band and (like Craig Corder) am a
serious lister. In fact, I publish the "official" listing publication for
Canadian Listers (Listers' Corner). I see no problem with being restricted
to a particular corner of the triangle or moving around it or hovering in
the middle. I believe that listers are not ugly step-sisters and other
people at other ends of the birding spectrum have no right to criticize
them, or vice versa. It is this multidimensional approach that makes
birding so interesting and dynamic.

For example, yesterday I marveled at the iridescent plumage of Tree Swallow
for a few minutes on my walk to work and would think nothing of driving to
Seattle if somebody could give me a reliable location to find a Mountain Quail!
