Hi Tweeters,

Bill and Erin Woods' report of the Ospreys nesting on the ball park lights
reminded me of an Angels night ball game I attended at Anaheim Stadium
several years ago. We were sitting near the third-base line foul pole in
the middle deck seats (good thing I had brought binoculars !) when a bird
flashing through the lights caught my attention (I had long since given up
on the game). It landed on the top of the foul pole, and began to tear
apart something it held in its talons. Thanking God that I had my binocs
with me, I focused on the bird. It was an American Kestrel, and he was
tearing the wings off a large moth, letting them flutter to the ground one
by one, and then eating the body. He would then fly off into the lights
again, snatch another moth, and bring it to the foul pole to eat ! Forget
what was happening on the field, the action was on the foul pole ! Maybe
those seats weren't so bad after all.......

Good birding wherever you find it !
