------I just took a 10-day vacation to the central Calif. foothills of
the Sierras to visit my daughter and grandchildren. Thopugh the main
purpose of the visit was to see my daughter and her children, I did
manage to get 4 hours or so to walk around the area "gold miners" hills,
and was able to see a large variety of songbirds, and rapters indiginous
to this area, many 'first-timers' for me.
------On the way home Friday, I visited Colusa and Sacramento NWR in the
central California valley.
------Saturday, I extensively visited Tule Lake NWR, and Lower Klamath
Basin NWR......and a quick visit ro Klamath Marsh NWR on Sunday (Tule
Lake anf Lower Klamath is in NE Calif, and the last place in so.
Oregon.)
------Since the kinds and quanities of migrating and nesting songbirds,
geese, upright and long-legged waders, and shorebirds was most
impressive, and beautiful(again adding extensively to my 'life-list), in
the next 3-4 days I will list much of the beautiful birds I saw, since a
great part of them are uncommon or do not exist on Wash. and no. Oreg.
The list I will provide and describe will be especially interesting to
residents of southern Oreg, and to others that have done birding in
these areas.
------Lack of time prevented me from visiting Malheur NWR near Burns,
Oreg., like I have originally hoped. However, what I saw at the places I
did visit was quite an eyefull, which pictures and memories I will
treasure for a long, long time.
