A Swainson's Thrush came through my backyard south of Olympia on Saturday
morning, April 19. I can't help but think that it was a recent arrival
scoping out the territory since I have never seen a Swainson's Thrush in my
yard. They are common during summer in the surrounding forest adjacent to
the Deschutes River but they don't seem to often come into the subdivion
full of exotic trees, shrubs, and beauty bark (what self-respecting forest
bird would?). This bird perched briefly on the fence, flew to the ground,
ran a short distance, back to the other end of the fence, then gone.
