The swarm of White-crowned Sparrows this spring arrived seemingly overnight
in the Wapato are of south-central Washington. The evening of April 13
seemed to herald a shift in air masses, from a persistent, cool,
predominately northerly flow to a southwesterly one. Bingo! The flight that
night of the 13th must have brought millions of birds into the region-from
geese to sparrows, even a sprinkling of Neotropical migrants.

Fifty White-crowned Sparrows continue to loiter in bushes along a canal just
below our house, along with 5-6 Golden-crowns, 1 Fox and 1 Lincoln's.
