Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This recording
was made Thursday April 24. If you have anything to add call Harry nehls at
233-3976.

A mostly winter plumaged male RUFF was found April 18 at pony Slough at
Coos Bay. A bright male HOODED ORIOLE was first seen April 17 coming to
hummingbird feeders near the corner of 3d. and Pacific Streets in Cape
Meares Village near Tillamook Bay. Both birds remained for several days and
may still be around.

The BLUE JAY continues to be seen along Danebo Avenue in west Eugene. The
BLUE JAY in the Cascade Park section of Vancouver, Washington is also still
in the area.

A male COSTA'S HUMMINGBIRD has returned to the hummingbird feeder along the
Deschutes River next to Sawyer Park, west of Bend. A COSTA'S has summered
in that area for several years now.

The female TUFTED DUCK remains with the GREATER SCAUP flock on the Columbia
River below the John Day Dam.

Single BROWN PELICANS were at Depoe Bay and Boiler Bay over the weekend.

Shorebird movements brought a LONG-BILLED CURLEW to Bandon, a MARBLED
GODWIT on Clatsop Beach, and a SOLITARY SANDPIPER to Cedar Canyon Marsh
during the week. Flocks of RED-NECKED PHALAROPES were at Jackson Bottom at
Hillsboro and at the Forest Grove Ponds April 20.

WESTERN KINGBIRDS moved through the state during the week. One was at
Washougal, Washington April 20. TURKEY VULTURES, VAUX'S SWIFTS, LAZULI
BUNTINGS and flocks of warblers were the main migrants during the week. Two
SANDHILL CRANES were at Ankeny NWR near Salem April 17 and 18. A BRANT was
with migrant CACKLING GEESE there April 19. A ROSS' GOOSE and a SNOW GOOSE
were with migrant CANADA GEESE in Sutherlin April 21.

A BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK and a WESTERN TANAGER were near Grants Pass April
20. A BLACK-NECKED STILT was at Emigrant Lake south of Ashland April 13.

SWAINSON'S HAWKS are now arriving in eastern Oregon. A number of TRICOLORED
BLACKBIRDS were among a large YELLOW-HEADED BLACKBIRD flock south of
Paisley April 22. The HARRIS' SPARROW continues to be seen at Malheur NWR
Headquarters. A WILLIAMSON'S SAPSUCKER and three RED-NAPED SAPSUCKERS were
there during the week.
