I had a rare and early opportunity to scout around a bit at Montlake Fill
this morning because of our UW department's annual breakfast at the
Horticulture Center. Spotted both Green-winged and Cinnamon teal plus
Northern Shovelers at the pond closest to the Center. Lotsa Violet-green
and some Northern Rough-winged swallows flying about; Yellow-rumped and
Yellowthroats singing; three Greater? (don't see these geese often, and
my office field guide is an older model) White-fronted geese feeding with
Canada geese (goslings EVERYWHERE!) on the soccer field just east of the
E-1 student parking area. I know others report frequently on Montlake
Fill; this is what I was able to spot without field glasses on my way back
to Roos 1 Bldg labs. Very good view of the lovely White-fronted geese
even without binos.
Cheers and is it ever going to stop raining,
