Today April 29th I just saw my first yellow-headed blackbird (a single
female) here in Elk, Washington. Elk is about 30 miles north of Spokane
on Hwy 2. I hadn't seen them here in Elk before.
I also have savannah sparrows and vesper sparrows singing in the hay
fields behind my house now! I was just wondering if anyone knows
how these birds are doing in WA considering all the land conversions
and intensive haying going on. Does anyone know? Is there enough
sightings in the BBS data to determine their status?

Here in sunny California the Yellow-headed Blackbirds are beginning to
make
an appearance also. One was reported in the San Diego area.
Your "yellow" House Finch is probably a young male. I have noticed that
the males coming to my backyard feeders range in color from the
yellowish/orange to bright red. There seems to be an abundance of both
House Finches and House Sparrows here in Hemet this year !
