Actually, the English name of the Kohlmeise is Great Tit, which has
blue-green and yellow coloration, and is the largest of the European tits.
The Coal Tit, which we also saw, is black and white, and has the German
name of Tannenmeise. The German name of the Jay (also called Eurasian Jay)
is Eichelh"aher (umlaut over the a), literally translated as Acorn Jay. He
is generally found among oak trees, and we saw him throughout our trip.

An excellent field guide to European birds, with German, Dutch, French and
Swedish names along with the English names, is Peterson's "A Field Guide
to the Birds of Britain and Europe". We carried it along with us on our
bicycles.

We hope this clears things up.
