We almost had it protected. Mike Harcourt, B.C's premier before "Militia Man
Clark", is now a gung-ho birder. Just before the "Nanaimo Bingogate" scandal
broke lose, Wayne Campbell took Harcourt out for a birding tour of Boundary
Bay. Harcourt, being a newbie birder at that time, was knocked out by the
thousands of shorebirds (Campbell made sure it was at migration time).
Harcourt made all the right noises about getting the wheels of protection in
motion. Unfortunately, politics intervened and Harcourt stepped down as a good
leader should when the *&^% hits the fan. Too bad. I can't see Glen Clark
giving Boundary Bay the time of day seeing as how he is busy trying to placate
the industrios by bad-mouthing environmentalists these days. Give me Harcourt
any day, thank you.
