White Storks ae wonderful birds! May, 1996 my husband and I rode trains
from France to Italy. In France I held up Peterson's Birds of Britain
and Europe to some fellow passengers pointed to the stork and asked,
"ici?". I know it was a pathetic attempt to just ask if that bird was
"here". But :)
The first person said, "no". But the next person said, "Oui, ici". I
smiled and thanked them, then watched and wished to see that stork.
Wherever it was a possibility to see the bird, I was really on the
look-out! I finally gave up. When we finally arrived in Gonni, Greece
to visit our relatives, I looked up on a pole in the village square and
there was a White Stork sitting on it's nest. Cousin Georgio was quite
amazed that I took out my binocs to have my long awaited look. He said
everyone would think he was crazy if he did that. (but later from the
edge of the village he couldn't resist borrowing my binocs for a closer
look too!)
