Columbia Estuary Report - 8/3/97

There were 69 ELEGANT TERNS at the Necanicum Estuary in Seaside on
Friday. There were also about 100 WESTERN SANDPIPERS and a SEMIPALMATED
PLOVER.

There was heavy ground fog today at the South Jetty of the Columbia.
I could hear juvenile COMMON MURRES on the ocean. About 150 WESTERN
SANDPIPERS, 100 LEAST SANDPIPERS, one SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, a
SEMIPALMATED PLOVER and a BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER were near the ponds at high
tide.

A GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 6 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS and 4 LEAST SANDPIPERS
were at Wireless Rd.

>From the noise the neighborhood WESTERN SCRUB-JAY is making, I'd guess
there was a successful nesting made this year.
