I know a manager from one of the Greater Vancouver stores. I asked this
person about shade-grown coffee and the simple answer is that they
looked at the possibility of obtaining some, but the economics were just
not there. Cost them too much, and they could not get a hold of enough
to make it a constant supply in case it took off in the stores. I doubt
an organization-wide edict against talking about shade-grown coffee
exists.
