Sorry about dead horses, they're easiest to beat on.

Thanks, Jerry for a good discussion of the technicalities of GPS. Lots of
anwsers there that we've missed before.

Our mid-price amateur model (A Magellan 3000) works well, but much better
with the small auxilliary antenna and a 12-volt power source than with only
the internal batteries and antenna. It's differential-ready, but we've
procrastinated on getting the add'l receiver, so far.

We find it advantageous to use UTM (Universal Transverse Mercator)
coordinate system rather than lat-long, since the 1000-meter UTM grid is
available on 7.5 minute USGS topos.
