Subject: Columbia Estuary Report - 8/8/97

There's been the distinct smell of autumn in the air the last couple
of days... seems a bit early.

Shorebird numbers have been generally as expected around the estuary
over the last week. CASPIAN TERNS are dispersing. The expected
congregations on Trestle Bay and Young's Bay are diminishing steadily.

There was only one ELEGANT TERN at the Necanicum this morning along
with about 30 WESTERN SANDPIPERS.

A GREAT EGRET was roosting in a tree on Lewis & Clark Rd this morning.
