Subject: Who He?

I have a mystery bird who showed up at my feeder last Wednesday. Size
approximately 6", bill (I couldn't see too clearly because he was partially
behind the feeder) but it was obviously a seed-eater. Eye dark, no ring or
other marking. No stripes nor wing bars. Color: brownish back w/bright
red on top of head; breast yellowish, with red blotches. Tail quite long,
darker brown, with a notched end.
Obviously a juvenile---------red cross-bill? I would almost have said
hepatic tanager, but this is certainly not the right place for one.
Will someone help with identification?

Thanks, and good birding,
