The one time I found such a grebe sitting on a dock I was able to wrap
it up with my coat and take it to the PAWS/HOWL animal shelter; they
said it would have a good chance of survival, and that it had suffered a
wound. They certainly don't walk well on land, but probably get up there
for a variety of reasons, injuries and illness and wave action among
them.
