........Ridgefield Nat'l Wildlife Refuge is located about 15-20 miles
due north of Vancouver, Wash.(across the river from Portland, Oreg!!!!).
There are 2 sections to the refuge, the south being mostly diked, and he
north being mostly natural undiked. This refuge, along with several
others in the Willamette Valley of northern Oregon, was established for
the protection of the dusky Canada Geese, during their winter residence,
after the earthquake of 1964 in the their nesting area of Copper River
Delta of Canada raised the land a number of feet, thus draining much of
the wetlands in their breeding area, and thus endangering them.
