Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This recording
was made Thursday August 14. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls
at 233-3976.

The fall migration is well under way now with good sized flocks of migrants
being reported from many areas. The first flocks of PINTAILS are now
arriving in western Oregon. Good numbers of SOOTY SHEARWATERS are now
moving southward off the Oregon Coast, and warblers and flycatchers are on
the move.

Shorebird numbers are increasing with the largest numbers reported from
Coos Bay and Bandon. Two SOLITARY SANDPIPERS were at Creswell August 12.
BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS and LESSER YELLOWLEGS are being seen in many areas.

Eight GREAT EGRETS and three SNOWY EGRETS were near Reedsport August 10.
Eight GREAT EGRETS are now at Yaquina Bay, and on August 12 a SNOWY EGRET
was at Knute Slough several miles east of Newport. Three GREAT EGRETS are
now at the Forest Grove Ponds as their numbers increase in the Portland
area.

A TUNDRA SWAN was at the Bay City Sewage Ponds on Tillamook Bay August 5.
The WHITE PELICAN that has been at the Fern Ridge Reservoir Dam since mid
winter is still in the area. A FRANKLIN'S GULL was at the Forest Grove
Ponds last weekend.

An ARCTIC TERN in breeding plumage was at Black Butte Ranch near Sisters
August 8. A BLACK TERN was near Grass Valley in Sherman County August 9. A
CATTLE EGRET was along Stateline Road in the Lower Klamath NWR August 11.
