Can't answer for your specific location, but out at Marymoor this year
we have had good numbers of swallows. When they first arrived this
spring we typically had large numbers of Violet-green (up to 200 on one
day), Barn, Cliff, and some Northern Rough-wings. We consistently had
Vaux's and Black Swifts also. As the summer has gone along, the number
of swallows has dropped. In the last two weeks, we are basically down to
Barn Swallows. The VGs seemed to be the first to "disappear". Checked
with a friend who regularly birds the Montlake Fill, and he has noticed
the same pattern. Where have they gone? South maybe? Good question, will
be interesting to hear from others and their observations.
