Tweets,
Shorebird wise it was an absolutely amazing day for shorebirds in Ocean
Shores. I will discuss only Damon Pt. shorebirds here and my jetty count
will show the rock shorebirds. Highlights on the pond at Damon Pt. 1 JUV.
STILT SANDPIPER, at least 12 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 4 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER.
There were also 5 Pectoral Sandpiper, 3 Bairds Sandpiper, 56 Dowitcher
(both species though not sure how many of each, Identified by flight
call). There were 8 Greater Yellowlegs, 4 Least Sandpiper, 5 Western
Sandpiper. At the connecting area between Damon and the Game Range there
were 2 Semipalmated Sandpiper, 36 Least Sandpiper, ~400 Western Sandpiper,
18 Semipalmated Plover (7 were juviniles), 1 Black-bellied Plover. At the
caspian tern roost where the elegant Terns had been one Elegant remained
and the juv. caspian that had been there was gone today. Flying over the
east end of the game range this morning were 12 Red Knots, 5 of which were
in breeding plumage. All in all today I had 20 species of shorebirds,
which included no large shorebirds such as Godwit, Whimbrel, Willet or
Curlew. This list probably could have been added to with a stop at Bills
Spit, but time did not allow it.
