The adult female Red Crossbill continues to come to the feeder, but it's been
several days since I've seen the immature female. The first day I observed
them was Aug. 3.
The crossbill is much less nervous than the House Finches that also feed.
One can get quite close to the crossbill until I raise the camera. Then
she's gone.

A couple of days ago I counted 13 California Quail in the yard. (Been quail
around since Feb. 7.) Yesterday evening an adult male showed up with 6 itsy
bitsy ones, making the count 19. A week ago I found quail feathers in the
side yard...I believe a cooper's or sharp-shinned caught it, based on the
evidence. It's interesting to observe some of the juvenile males join the
adult male on lookout on top of the wood pile or old cat tree. They soon lose
interest, though.
