IMAGE NOTES
Northwest Bird Images by Jim Lyles
<jrlyles at eskimo.com>
Dan--
None of these images show rarities. They are all quite familiar
northwest birds. Instead, I've picked out this sampling of images
because each one (I hope) has some character, some attitude.
I've taken all these photos in Washington or Oregon, and except for
the usual cropping, adjusting of lightness and contrast, and occasional
sharpening, I have refrained from enhancing these images digitally. All
the images are JPEGs at 360 pixels an inch.
* Cooper's Hawk at the Nisqually NWR, WA. It is recovering its wits after
missing a passel of robins in this same treetop.
* Red Crossbill at Point Defiance Park, Tacoma, WA.
* Chestnut-backed Chickadee at Point Defiance Park, Tacoma, WA.
* Song Sparrow on Red Currant at Nisqually NWR, WA.
* Wood Duck at Snake Lake Nature Center, Tacoma, WA.
* Clark's Nutcracker at Crater Lake, OR.
* Killdeer chick at Malheur NWR, OR.
* Three fledgling swallows at Nisqually NWR, WA. A fourth fledgling had
taken its first flight before I snapped this photo. Two of these three
in the photo tried their wings during the 40 minutes I watched them.
