Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This recording
was made Thursday August 21. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls
at 233-3976.

Shorebird migrations were most obvious during the week. On August 18 a
BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPER, an AVOCET, an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER, and two
WILLETS were along the Siuslaw River east of Florence. BAIRD'S and PECTORAL
SANDPIPERS are now increasing. SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS are still being
reported.

Up to 50 ELEGANT TERNS are still at Coos Bay. Seven were at Yaquina Bay
August 16. About a dozen were at the mouth of the Columbia River August 20,
where at least three PARASITIC JAEGERS and one POMARINE JAEGER were
harrassing the gulls and terns. An early BLACK-LEGGED KITTIWAKE was there
that day also.

MEW GULLS and BONAPARTE'S GULLS are increasing along the coast, as are
BROWN PELICANS. On August 18, 120 pelicans were inside Tillamook Bay. Two
PACIFIC GOLDEN-PLOVERS were on the Bayocean Shorebird Flats there August
20. A SCRUB JAY was in Cape Meares Village that day.

Among the many shorebirds at Summer Lake SWA August 16 were four SOLITARY
SANDPIPERS. A BEWICK'S WREN was seen near the refuge barn that day. A
RED-SHOULDERED HAWK was near Paisley August 16.

A male and a female AMERICAN REDSTART were netted and banded August 18 at
Odessa Campground at the south end of Upper Klamath Lake.

Good numbers of warblers and sparrows are now passing through Malheur
Refuge Headquarters. An immature PURPLE FINCH was near the P Ranch August
17. Many shorebirds are now being seen on the refuge.
