Stilt Sandpipers are uncommon but found each year in this area, usually
after August 10 and on through mid-September. I believe the farther east
you go in e WA, the more you'll find. Along the east base of the Cascades
or in the Okanogan Vallery, they are rare.

Upland Sandpipers, as many are aware, are now gone as a breeding bird in
WA. So, the report you mention is of great interest. A report like that
probably deserves good documentation.

How common are these two birds in N. C. Wash. and/or Douglas Co.?
I've lived here 27 years and these are my first Stilt Sandpipers: behind
Chief Joe Dam, and at Grimes Lake. Also, friend Rick Hendrick saw
an Upland Sandpiper on road to Grimes Lake. Have they ever been
reported in this area? Maybe this can be answered by Andy or Dan
Stephens (whose e-mail I don't have. Thanks. Meredith Spencer
