I bought a copy of AviSys 4.0 early this year. Now I am in the process of
entering all of the birds from my past records into that database. I started
in May 1988 and when I got to my trip to my trip to Israel and Austria I ran
into some bird ID problems. I was using "The Birds of Britain and Europe" by
Heinzel, Fitter and Parslow reprinted in 1984. A number of the birds were
not in the AviSys world list. But by going to the scientific names I was
able to find most of the new names.
I had listed a Hooded Crow (corvus corone cornix) seen in Israel and a
Carrion Crow (Corvus corone corone) seen in Austria. The AviSys world list
only lists a Carrion Crow (Corvus corone). So I assume the Hooded Crow has
been lumped into the latter Carrion Crow
I also saw Tristram's Grackle (onycognathus tristramii) at Masada in Israel.
I cannot find either the English name or scientific name in the world list.
Can anyone tell me what the Tristram's Grackle has been renamed?
