Hee-hee. Yeah, I too was kind of baffled by Don's tranquil ruminations and
gentle meanderings. Maybe he's mellowing, poor devil. You aren't off your
feed or hitting the prozac again, are you, DB? Or have you converted to
Buddhism? '-)

Actually, it's good this thread came up again, 'cause I think some thanks
are due. I want to say that after the whizbang and everyone got back down to
business, this turned into a richly educative thread on the elaborate
relationships and tensions between laws, cultures, commerce, histories and
politics--on four levels, minimum: community, state, federal and
international--of a complexity that I hadn't dreamt existed beneath the
surface of this issue (which complexity taught me fresh respect for the
politicians, community leaders, judges and, yes, environmentalists who try
their utmost to resolve these things fairly and a deeper contempt for those
who would manipulate these issues for greater personal power, exposure and
money). By itself, unadorned by further commentary, this thread constitutes
a sturdy defence for occasional off-topic forays. It was one of the best.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to it, especially Hans Krauss for his
initial, innocent request for clarification of Sea Shepherd's press release.
