Hello, this is Portland Audubon Society's Rare Bird Report. This recording
was made Thursday August 28. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls
at 233-3976.

A BAR-TAILED GODWIT, 22 RED KNOTS, 68 MARBLED GODWITS, and 170 SHORT-BILLED
DOWITCHERS have been among the shorebird swarms at Bandon during the week.
A RUFF and a SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER have been among the swarms at the ponds
on the North Spit of Coos Bay. A STILT SANDPIPER was at the Siltcoos Outlet
south of Florence August 23. Seven ARCTIC TERNS were there August 20. Two
BUFF-BREASTED SANDPIPERS, an AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER, and a MOCKINGBIRD were
near the South Jetty of the Siuslaw River August 27. Good numbers of
RED-NECKED PHALAROPES are being reported throughout the state.

Up to 350 ELEGANT TERNS are still being seen at the mouth of the Rogue
River at Gold Beach. A couple of PARASITIC JAEGERS were there August 26.
175 ELEGANT TERNS were at the Necanicum River Mouth at Seaside August 26,
along with eight MARBLED GODWITS and three SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS. Several
PARASITIC JAEGERS are still being seen chasing terns off the South Jetty of
the Columbia River. The first BULLER'S SHEARWATERS of the season were off
Lincoln County August 25.

A SNOWY EGRET was near the scaling station along the Siuslaw River east of
Florence August 21. 200 WHIMBRELS were migrating along the Tillamook County
coast August 24. That day 20 RHINOCEROS AUKLETS were off Barview Jetty. The
TUNDRA SWAN is still at the Bay City Sewage Ponds and another is at
Ridgefield NWR north of Vancouver, WA.

A WHIMBREL was heard calling at Big Martin Lake on Sauvie Island August 23.
Four SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPERS were at the Dallas Sewage Ponds west of Salem
August 28. Migrant WHITE-FRONTED GEESE and SWAINSON'S THRUSHES were
reported from many parts of western Oregon during the week. GREAT EGRETS
continue to increase in western Oregon.

RED-SHOULDERED HAWKS were reported during the week from Goose Lake State
Park south of Lakeview, from near Sutherlin, over Corvallis, and from the
Forest Grove Ponds.

A late CASPIAN TERN was at Salem August 25. Single LONG-BILLED and
SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS were at the Diamond Lake Sewage Ponds, south of
Crater Lake August 25. A possible NORTHERN WATERTHRUSH was heard at Odell
Lake August 21.

RED CROSSBILLS are now appearing with some regularity in the Coast Range
and in the Cascades. During the week WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS were seen at
Gold Lake, near Highway 58, southeast of Eugene, at Sparks Lake near Mt.
Bachelor, and in the Blue Mountains north of Tollgate.

Good numbers of shorebirds are being reported from the Klamath Basin,
especially from Miller Island. The CATTLE EGRET is still being seen south
of Warden.

A STILT SANDPIPER was at Hatfield Lake near Bend August 27.

A RED-EYED VIREO was observed August 23 at DeMoss Park in Sherman County.
That day a SOLITARY SANDPIPER was near Kent.

Thats it for this week.
