Fran,

I have a pair of the 8x40 Bruntons, and like Robert Taylor, I am satisfied
with them. Bright, wide field of view, and reasonably contrasty. A few
drawbacks to consider: they are heavy (unavoidable in that size, I think),
they don't focus closer than about 15 feet, and the focus mechanism is
*remarkably* slow (almost two complete revolutions of the focussing wheel).
The later has been the most difficult for me to adjust to; focussing from
near to far, or vice versa, just seems to take forever, especially if
something interesting just showed up where your focus isn't. But given the
price and features, they are definately worth considering.
