the South Jetty of the Columbia River, Clatsop Co., OR
29 Aug 1997 0905 to 1005hr

Method: One hour (timed) station count 100m west of "3 rocks" on
top of SJCR using 20x60 Bushnell spotting scope and 8x50 Bushnell
binoculars. Birds were sorted as to flyby, sitting on beach, sitting
on ocean or sitting on river.

Notes:A flock of 27 ELEGANT TERNS were hanging out at the end to the
jetty. At one point there were about 12 sitting on the rocks a the end.
There are still at least 6 PARASITIC JAEGERS in the area. At one point
4 (in various permutations of light to light intermediate) were sitting
together on the ocean. A very dark jaeger was aggressively chasing
Elegant Terns at the end of the jetty. SOOTY SHEARWATERS were milling
around. Most were sitting on the ocean, but many were in the air.
