Columbia Estuary Report - 8/29/97

There were 117 ELEGANT TERNS at the Necanicum Estuary yesterday (8/28).
10 MARBLED GODWITS, 4 LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS, 2 BAIRD'S SANDPIPERS,
2 SEMIPALMATED PLOVERS and about 60 Least/Western Sandpipers were also
present.

An adult Peale's-type PEREGRIN was breakfasting on a BARN SWALLOW at
the bend in the jetty at the South Jetty of the Columbia River.
A single juvenile AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER and 2 RED-NECKED PHALAROPES
were on the shorebird flats on the high tide. There are also good numbers
of WANDERING TATTLERS, and both species of turnstones on the jetty.

As mentioned in the seawatch report, there are at least 27 ELEGANT TERNS
and 6 PARASITIC JAEGERS regularly working the end of the south jetty.
