On the subject of moving nests...while living in
Maryland I observed dozens of barn swallow
nests inside of a huge airplane hanger at a
private airfield. The hanger was circular and
had only one door; when someone needed to
remove their plane the whole structure
rotated to re-position the door. Adult birds
seemed to do just fine as far as finding their
way in and out, and they were feeding young,
but I do recall seeing a number of dead
nestlings on the floor of the hanger.
