Shorebirds make up the bulk of the southbound migration at present. At
least no passerine sightings have been called in over this period.

On August 1 at Two Rivers Park, Dennis Rockwell found 1 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, 3
SPOTTED SANDPIPERS, 6 LEAST SANDPIPERS, 2 DUNLIN and 2 COMMON SNIPE. He
also noted a COMMON LOON on the Columbia River off the park.

On August 1 on the Yakima Delta, I (Bob Woodley) observed 4 SEMIPALMATED
PLOVER, 5 GREATER YELLOWLEGS, 1 LEAST SANDPIPER, 1 SOLITARY SANDPIPER, 3
SPOTTED SANDPIPERS, 1 SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, 140 WESTERN SANDPIPERS, 3
LEAST SANDPIPERS and 2 COMMON SNIPE.

Dennis Rockwell birding the Yakima Delta on the following day reported
pretty much the same species but in different numbers and added 3
LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS to the list.

A friend and I birded WE Johnson Park on August 5 and found 1 WARBLING
VIREO, 1 YELLOW WARBLER, 1 NASHVILLE WARBLER and 1 YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT.
That evening we found 12 COMMON NIGHTHAWKS over my Richland yard.

Nancy LaFramboise and I checked the Yakima Delta on August 7, but the water
was up and the shorebird numbers were down. Only Killdeer, Greater and
Lesser Yellowlegs and Spotted and Western Sandpipers were present. Bateman
Island yielded 2 DOWNY WOODPECKERS, an ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER, a probable
GREAT-HORNED OWL and many of the more common bird species.

An OSPREY soared over the Yakima Delta on August 8.

On August 10, Dennis Rockwell found early PECTORAL SANDPIPERS at the pond at
milepost 300 of Highway 12 and another 1 near the Walla Walla Delta.

This morning the Yakima Delta hosted 14 AMERICAN AVOCET, both yellowlegs
plus Spotted, Least, and Western Sandpipers.

To report your own sightings, please give your name, phone number and
sightings after the tone. Thank you.
