This is the Lower Columbia Basin Audubon Society Bird Alert for July 31,

While no calls have been received regarding local bird sightings, the
southbound movement of both shorebirds and passerines has definitely commenced.

On July 22, the series of ponds south of Dodd-Iowa Beef Road yielded 26
BLACK-NECKED STILT, 3 AMERICAN AVOCET, 10 WESTERN SANDPIPERS and 30
LONG-BILLED DOWITCHERS.

An immature BONAPARTE'S GULL rested on the Richland shoreline near the
Allied Arts sidewalk show (in Howard Amon Park)on July 25.

On July 28, a MACGILLIVRAY'S WARBLER appeared in my Richland yard and
reappeared the next 2 days. On July 29, it was accompanied by a
BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD plus a WARBLING VIREO and ORANGE-CROWNED and
YELLOW WARBLERS.

By July 30, mudflats had emerged on the Yakima Delta and noteworthy birds
included 3 GREEN-WINGED TEAL, 5 RUDDY DUCKS, 6 GREATER and 2 LESSER
YELLOWLEGS, a SOLITARY SANDPIPER, 20 WESTERN SANDPIPERS, 3 LONG-BILLED
DOWITCHERS, 3 EASTERN KINGBIRDS and 5 swallow species.

A brief check of the Yakima Delta this morning yielded 2 SEMIPALMATED
PLOVERS, 3 GREATER and 1 LESSER YELLOWLEGS, a SOLITARY SANDPIPER and 75
WESTERN SANDPIPERS.

For the next few months, birding locally can only get better. When you
