This is Dale Goble with the northern Idaho / eastern Washington /
northeastern Oregon bird hotline.

On the 22d, David Heath and Tess Anderson found the
WHITE-WINGED CROSSBILLS at Woodward Campground near
Tollgate, Oregon. OR DeLorme 86 A-4. The birds were very hard to
see because they are hanging out at the tops of very tall trees. On the
23d, they found a female BLUE GROSBEAK on the north side of the
loop trail near refuge headquarters at McNary National Wildlife Refuge.
OR DeLorme 85 A-7.

Dan Svingen spent the week birding North Idaho with his brother. On
a the 28th, at the Sunrise day use are in Farragut State Park, they
found both WHITE-WINGED and RED CROSSBILLS as well as CASSINS
VIREO. ID DeLorme 60 A-2.

At Mann Lake east of Lewiston on the 24th, the Svingen entourage
found a PEREGRINE FALCON. On the 28th, they saw 9 STILT
SANDPIPERS, a SEMIPAALMATED SANDPIPER, and a BLACK-BELLIED
PLOVER. The plover was still present the next day when John and
Marty Hirth birded there. The Hirths also saw BAIRD SANDPIPER, 2
PECTORAL SANDPIPERS, 4 DUNLIN, AND 1 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER
and 2 SEMIPLAMATED PLOVERS. The BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER and
SEMIPLAMATED PLOVER were still present when Deb Beitler visited
Mann Lake later in the day.

The Svingens found an immature MEW GULL (1st summer-2d winter)
at the Sandpoint City Beach on the 28th. Also present were 5
HERRING GULLS, 14 BONAPARTE GULLS, and 2 FRANKLIN GULLS.
Just south of the Canadian border, the Svingens found a BLACK
SWIFT keeping company with 200 VAUX'S SWIFTS at the mouth of
Smith Creek. ID DeLorme p. 48 A-2. On Smith Creek itself, they
found BOREAL CHICKADEES. On the Marsh Trail at the Kootenai
National Wildlife Refuge they found a SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHER.

John and Marty Hirth visited Reardon, Washington on Monday the
24th. They found HORNED and EARED GREBES, PECTORAL
SANDPIPER, SEMIPALMATED SANDPIPER, and a RED KNOT. The
best birding was along a gravel road west of Route 221 and just south
of the main pond. Reardon is 88 C-1 in the Washington DeLorme.

On the 29th the Hirths found 3 RED-NECKED PHALLAROPES and an
EARED GREBE at the Genesee sewage ponds. Idaho DeLorme p 58 C-

Mike Denny reports two good birds from the Walla Walla River Delta.
On the 29th, in addition to the usual shorebirds Mike found a RUDDY
TURNSTONE and a MARBLED GODWIT. WA DELorme p. 40, D1.5.
