I just finished a biography of Ludlow Griscom called "Dean of the
Birdwatchers" this weekend. A very entertaining read--the book organized
Griscom's life around subjects rather than time, so it looked at his
listing activities, then Audubon, and the like. Well worth the time for
any interested in the history of birding and the conservation
movement--has a nice bibliography of Griscom's works and is well
documented. Many amusing anecdotes as well.
This is published by Smithsonian Press--the author's name now
escapes me as I've written this. There was still a copy at Powell's
Downtown (of course, the old cheapskate here took the cheaper one)

PS--To the guy who was looking for the Master Guides--Powell's Downtown
Portland had 2 #1's and a #3 as well as a complete set on Thanksgiving.
