I've enjoyed birding around the Tucson area when I go
to visit relatives in AZ. Even the suburbs of the city produced
good birds for me, since there are so many there that I
would never see in Alaska. But try to take a day for a trip
to Madera Canyon, at least as far as Florida Wash, which
is still at a fairly low elevation and very birdy. Another nice
day outing is the Arizona-Sonoma Desert Museum. You
can bird the grounds, or learn some of the local birds from
the ones in their aviaries. If you get there bright and early
on a weekday, you might get the hummingbird aviary to
yourself for a few minutes. Cool.
