Subject: Traffic Jam for a Good Reason

On my way home yesterday around 3:15 the traffic reports were saying
"Extremely slow northbound 405 between Kennydale and Coal Creek for no
apparent reason" - I was in the jam. As I rounded the corner between
112th SE and Coal Creek Parkway the reason for the jam became quite
apparent. An adult Bald Eagle in all her(?) splendor was perched on one
of the lamp posts overhanging the freeway, and everyone was slowing down
to take a look. Looking off to the west of the freeway there were two
more Baldies (both adult) perched in large snags (a usual hangout for
these residents)in what appeared to be the only patch of sunlight for
miles around. I haven't checked Coal Creek in the past 3 weeks, but the
salmon run there is usually finished by this time of the year, and
seeing more than one eagle at a time was a surprising. It was a pretty
magnificent sight, and something that I'd slow down for anytime.

And oh, in the backup I watched as a sharpie pursued a robin over the
freeway and into the brush on the other side. Birds will be birds.

Good Birding
