This is Kas Dumroese with the northern Idaho / eastern Washington /
northeastern Oregon bird hotline.

The RED-SHOULDERED HAWK that has been persisting near the Walla
Walla River Delta in western Walla Walla Co., southeast of Pasco, WA
for about 2 months, was seen through December 1, according to John
and Marty Hirth. The bird was still at Madame Doriane (sp?) Park,
which is just north of the junction of US 730 and US 12 at about US
12 milepost 307. Also at Madame Doriane, look for the 4 HARRIS'S
SPARROWS and two WHITE-THROATED SPARROWS reported last
week by Mike and MerryLynn Denny. The sparrows were along the
little dirt road, which is just beyond the bathrooms, and runs west
along the Walla Walla River. WA DeLorme 40, D-1.

Just a few miles north at the Wallula poop piles along US 12, the
Hirth's could not find the weird, possible Band-tailed Gull, but did see
an adult GLAUCOUS-WINGED GULL and an immature GLAUCOUS
GULL.

A late WESTERN FLYCATCHER was reported by John and Marty Hirth
south of Pullman, Whitman Co., WA on Nov 30. Take US 195 south
from Pullman about 15 miles to Colton. From Colton, take Rimrock
Road southwest about 2 miles to Steptoe Canyon Road. The bird was
along Steptoe Canyon Road at mile marker 8. WA DeLorme 57, D-8
shows the start of Steptoe Canyon Road and WA DeLorme 47, A-7
shows the area around mile marker 8.

Three BEWICK'S WRENS and two BOHEMIAN WAXWINGS were the
highlights of a morning of birding around Moscow, Latah Co., ID on
December 4. Charles Swift, Mike Denny and myself found two
Bohemians in a flock of 30 or so CEDAR WAXWINGS at the UI Plant
Science Farm. To get there, take ID 8 east from Moscow about 1 mile
to Lenville Road. Turn left on Lenville and follow it into the farm.
Follow the first right until you come to the little arboretum. Walk the
arboretum north. This trio also found three BEWICK'S WRENS nearby.
Again, take ID 8 east from Moscow about 1 mile to Lenville Road, but
turn right onto Lenville. Follow it through two 90 degree turns and the
trailer park. Just past the trailer park, stay left at the Y and in about
0.5 mile you'll come to a brushy area on the right. There's a parking
pull-out just before it. ID DeLorme 58, C-1.

I also found a road-killed BARN OWL about 5 miles south of Moscow
on December 4. The mild weather could foster an incursion of these
rascals to the Palouse. Keep an eye out.

Good birding!
