Despite the el-Nino weather, the birds are few in far between these days. My
census route yielded only 12 species, mostly waterfowl, including 31
Bufflehead and 17 Common Merganser. Highlights of the quiet day were a Bald
Eagle, two singing Common Loons and 3 Green-winged Teal. The American
Wigeons, American Coots, Mallards and Herring Gulls are just a fraction of
their former numbers, about a half a dozen each. The small twittering jobs;
ie, chickadees of any flavor, and Golden-crowned Kinglets, were not to be
seen. I did hear one Red-breasted Nuthatch and one Brown Creeper. Thank
goodness for Pine Siskins, saw two flocks of about 50 each.

Not much sunlight, birds, or snow

Cheers,
