Hello birders,
As unusual (and disconcertening!) as it is to hear of the Seattle
peregrine's lack of respect for the rare Yellow-billed cuckoo which it
"harvested" recently, it comes as no surprise to birders from Utah like
myself. Shortly after falcon fans first established a pair of
peregrines on a roof-top in Salt Lake City ten years ago, an analysis of
the first ten carcasses revealed THREE dead cuckoos! The local birding
community was in a tizzy for a while but finally decided to let nature
take its course and simply stopped checking the carcasses! Presumably
cuckoos are the peregrine equivalent of prime rib.
